BREVE presents Renaissance and Baroque Masterpieces/Christmas Carols
Sunday, 4:00PM to 6:00PM
December 15, 2019
The Baton Rouge Early Vocal Ensemble (BREVE) will present an evening of a capella Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces and a selection of traditional Christmas carols on Gaudete Sunday, December 15 at 4:00 pm, at historic St. Paul Church in Bayou Goula, LA.
BREVE is one of the few early music ensembles in the state of Louisiana. The group is dedicated to the performance and promotion of lesser-known works from the sixteenth through the eighteenth centuries. Its vocalists come from all walks of life – from educators to lawyers, church musicians to students, and young professionals. BREVE was selected to perform at the Louisiana American Choral Director’s Association Conference in 2013 and 2015. The ensemble presents two concert seasons each year during Christmas and Lent.
Dr. William Plummer, BREVE founder, and artistic director, is Director of Choral Activities at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he conducts the Ragin’ Cajun Women’s Choir, the UL Lafayette Chorale and the Chamber Singers. He also teaches advanced choral conducting, choral literature, and graduate-level courses for the choral conducting degree.
This holiday event is an annual program at the historic Bayou Goula church, which is 1.8 miles upriver from Nottaway Plantation & Resort and 7.3 miles south of Plaquemine. Built-in 1871, the Church was nearly destroyed during Hurricane Gustav. It has been undergoing restoration by the Friends of St. Paul Church, LLC ( https://friendsofstpaulchurch.org/ ) who host and organize this annual community event.
Donations, suggested in the amount of $25 per person, will be accepted at the door, with 100% of the funds going directly to the remaining restoration of the Church.
