SUMMARY:Wood Stork & Wading Bird Viewing Event
DESCRIPTION:Calling all bird watchers\, photographers\, and anyone who loves wildlife! Grab your binoculars and join us for a unique morning of birdwatching! LDWF and the US Army Corps of Engineers\, New Orleans District will host the Wood Stork & Wading Bird Viewing Event on Saturday\, Aug. 1\, from 7 to 10 a.m. at the South Farm of the Sherburne WMA Complex. This is your chance to see one of the largest natural concentrations of wood storks\, along with shorebirds (sandpipers)\, egrets\, herons\, roseate spoonbills\, storks\, ibises\, and possibly even alligators and white-tailed deer!  LDWF biologists and other wildlife professionals will be on hand to help identify birds and discuss the area’s management and the fascinating wood stork. The only stork species native to North America\, wood storks stand 2 to 4 feet tall and boast an impressive 66-inch wingspan!\n\n\n\n\n\n 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 but anyone 18 or older must have a valid 𝗪𝗠𝗔 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁. Go north and take the first road to the left\, turn right on Mimms Street\, cross the bridge\, and turn right on the lower Atchafalaya Levee road. Please note that this is a gravel road. Go approximately one mile and you will see the South Farm sign\, cross over the levee\, and enter the parking lot.
