Happy Father’s Day from Iberville! Happy Father’s Day from Iberville!
Off the beaten path in Iberville Parish, an unassu Off the beaten path in Iberville Parish, an unassuming, white chapel stands watch over the Mississippi River. A white picket fence encircles the property, forming a barrier between the tiny church and the neighboring homes with their wandering cattle. Here you’ll find the Madonna Chapel, built in 1902 by Italian farmer Anthony Gullo. He built it after promising the Virgin Mary a chapel if his son, who was ill, recovered. The original structure was 7 feet by 7 feet, but was later moved and slightly enlarged to 9 feet by 9 feet.

For more than 120 years, its presence here has been a constant reminder of gratitude for an answered prayer. A sense of peace emanates from the interior, which offers a quiet respite from the outside world. It's often called the "world's smallest church" and received recognition by “Ripley’s Believe it or Not”.

Completed in 1909, the Plaquemine Lock State Histo Completed in 1909, the Plaquemine Lock State Historic Site is an engineering marvel that’s stood the test of time. This one-of-a-kind building features a unique Dutch design and is considered an architectural gem. The Lockhouse closed operations in 1961, but in 1982 it was transformed into a state park and tourist attraction. In 2024 the lockhouse closed once again to undergo a huge restoration project.
